Next Protein Latam will invest in Mexico
The company plans to build five plants in the country to produce protein inputs for animal feed.
In order to expand its operations in Mexico, the French company Next Protein Latam will invest 655 million pesos in its first year of operations and create 400 direct jobs.
The Secretariat of Economic Development of Mexico City (Sedeco) and the Trust for the Construction and Operation of the Central de Abasto (Ceda) signed an agreement with the company to build five plants to operate in the country. It is worth mentioning that the multinational specializes in the production of protein inputs for animal feed through the breeding of larvae that feed on organic waste.
Sedeco head Fadlala Akabani Hneide revealed that the investment will not only strengthen the circular economy in the capital but also boost foreign investment.
"Next Protein Latam chose our country as the base for its expansion in the Americas, with an investment that in the medium term is expected to reach 130 million euros, while Sedeco is accompanying us in this process at all times," said Akabani.
Authorities of the Trust for the Construction and Operation of the Central de Abasto de la Ciudad de México (FICEDA) indicated that providing access to companies with cutting-edge technology to secondary raw material markets contributes to productive linkages, which also benefits the environment.
The technology to be used by the multinational will enable the reuse of up to 200 tonnes of organic waste per year, such as fruit and vegetables unfit for human consumption from the Central de Abasto. Finally, representatives of the French company stated that after developing their first two factories in Tunisia, they chose Mexico to become the new regional hub.

What Next Protein Latam does is address the scarcity of resources and arable land, managing to produce as much protein in 100 square meters as in 100 hectares of soybean fields, but with a minimal carbon footprint.
